What to Do With Old Sock Yarn

If the sock ends have been removed, use the remaining yarn to sew them back into place. There is no need to worry about the ends coming out. They will simply sit right on top.

If knitting doesn’t interest you, but crocheting or sewing is more of your cup of tea, then get yourself a set of old sock yarn, needle and thread. For an easy project you may want to use an old pair of earrings that have not been worn for several years. After removing the clips, slide the earrings through the sock so that they lie flat.

Once, your new pair of earrings are through, attach an old sock with elastic under the earring loops. Now put the earring on the loop. This creates a beautiful bow on the backside of the earring.

As an alternative to knitting, try sewing the yarn onto a needle. Simply cut the yarn in half and sew it onto the needle. You may want to attach the elastic for added comfort.

You may not know it, but you could use your old sock yarn for other crafts. If you have kids or pets, you could try making a dog t-shirt with the yarn. on the back.

You could also use your old sock yarn to make a hat. Use yarn from a ball of yarn to create the brim. and the rest to make the sides. The edges should be left loose enough that you could sew the sides together at a bit for a zipper closure.
